BRING IT ON
Steven Curtis Chapman
(click to hear song)

I didn't come lookin' for trouble
And I don't want to fight needlessly
But I'm not gonna hide in a bubble
If trouble comes for me
I can feel my heart beating faster
I can tell something's coming down
But if it's gonna make me grow strong then...

Bring it on
Let the lightning flash, let the thunder roll,
let the storm winds blow
Bring it on
Let the trouble come, let the hard rain fall,
let it make me strong
Bring it on

'Cause I know I've got an enemy waiting
Who wants to bring me pain
But what he never seems to remember
What he means for evil God works for good
So I will not retreat or surrender

Now, I don't want to sound like some hero
'Cause it's God alone that my hope is in
But I'm not gonna run from the very things
That would drive me closer to Him
So bring it on

Bring it on
Let the lightning flash, let the thunder roll,
let the storm winds blow
Bring it on
Let the trouble come,
let it make me fall on the One who's strong
Bring it on
Let the lightning flash, let the thunder roll,
let the storm winds blow
Bring it on
Let me be made weak
so I'll know the strength of the One who's strong
Bring it on

Played squash with my Korean co-worker Tuesday night...and man alive, I'm feeling the pain right now. I stayed over at his place, it was quite comfy...however, what struck me the most was the hospitality of his mom. She made like such goodly food and the next day she packed a lunch for me as well. So after empirically observing my co-worker's mom's cooking and recollecting the wonderful food made by Duri's mom...I've come to the conclusion: Korean ladies are great cooks and can sing karaoke. Now that we're on the subject of great cooks and singing, here's my very own "Kwan/Brent" list:

What I look for in a lady (broken down into 4 sections for your reading leisure)...well, this list is more for fun than an actual "check-list"...

PHYSICALLY
-nice bigly beautiful eyes and nice rivery flowing hair
-smells of estrogen
-must be physically more fit than myself, which isn't too hard...hehe
-straight and white teeth would be a plus
-hygiene is nice, no make-up, but lip-gloss is okay
-good fashion sense is super, to counter-act my lack-of...but not materialistic
-nice soft hands and no boogers hanging from her nose
-oh, and no ear wax either...sometimes is okay tho
-great singer, so we could perform duets...she'll sing while I play italian spoons
-must have a strong stomach, so we could go and try different foods around the world
-strong immune system would be a plus
-ideal height would be 2 inches shorter, so with high heels we'll be eye level...but it doesn't really matter

Oh oh, speaking of eyes (as an aside)...pick up line time!!!

"Excuse me fair maiden...I seem to have lost myself in your eyes, can you gimme the directions to your heart?"
hahaha
Wow, it's beautiful.

EMOTIONALLY
-stable...I don't wanna be prejudice or anything, no serial killers please...heh
-caring, loving and all that mushy good emotional stuff
-doesn't cry when she breaks a nail
-dependant on God but independent of me
-yeah, must love God more than she loves me
-calm, serene, peaceful but not emotionless like a coat hanger
-oh, and she'll needa be able to interpret my jokes and laugh at them (sincerely)...hehe

"Why do white bears dissolve in water? Cause they're POLAR!"
Haha, get it? POLAR bear =)

INTELLECTUALLY
-must know how to turn on my activation energy
-has to be the GTCATCC sticky end to my CAGTAGG site
-puts the FUN into nuclear FUsioN
-has a passion to learn and to study
-must not be geekier than me, but I don't mind her being smarter
-I hope she's an Arts student...(fingers-crossed)
-creative, a problem solver...but doesn't over analyze things like I do

*sorry, no pick up lines or jokes for this category*

SPIRITUALLY
-lives and walks by the Spirit
-exemplifies the fruits of the Spirit
-missions oriented
-mature, and willing to step outta her comfort zone
-Biblically sound and sticks by her morals
-heavenly oriented but still earthenly active

"Dear fair maiden...you know how it says in the Bible to give food to the hungry and water to the thirsty...how about dinner some time?"
=D

And we're done. For now.

"The chain is only as strong as its weakest link..."

Feasibility of biohydrogen production by anaerobic co-digestion of food waste and sewage sludge. Nice. This will officially be my first post from work.

=)

Yeah, so the research dude is actually gonna let me conduct this experiment on my own (eventually) so that's pretty neat. I go to the cafe everyday after lunch to collect the food waste people throw out until I get about 20 kilos of it, then I blend it in a giant mixer and feed it to my lil' bacteria buddies.

That's the most interesting thing I could write about now.

And we're done.

So today at work I got to take food waste from the cafe and mix it in a blender to use as feed stock for the bacteria. The food from the garbage actually smelled quite good...was tempted to take a bite outta the bun floating in the pool of potatoe salad. It's kinda neat just trying to figure out which kinda biowastes can be used as a fuel for hydrogen production.

Anywho, onto my long awaited article...or not...here it is nonetheless:

=)

Sweetness of Singlehood

After reading Brent's and Kwan's blogs, I wanted to create me lil' own "wish list" too. However, that will be for another day and episode.

[Please refrain from reading the rest of this post if you are a giant sap looking for true love under the radiance of a mooncake on a mid-autumn festival night]

... Yeah, so basically...this is something that I learned at Winter Conference at one of the sessions. You gotta be content being single before you can be content being with someone else. See, this made a lot of sense to me. The "significant other" person should not be your "other half" or make you complete. Christ should be the one to make you complete and satisfied. The other person is merely a companion/helper/housewife. And until I can come to the realization that Christ is suffice, I don't think I can treat my wife the way she could be treated. I have much maturation to undergo before any of this mumbo jumbo relationship stuff would ever appear in my life.

It is easy to be single, but it is difficult to be satistfied being single. I guess that would be one of my greatest weaknesses...sometimes I would covet other people's relationship..."Boy oh boy, if I had a lady like that...dang, I'm pretty sure I could cook better than him..."....etc.

That's something that I'm learning and will continue to learn until the day I become satisfied...being single, but not alone.

oh oh oh, here's the top 5 reason why I think being single is super:

5) When you make a decision (ie. buy a house, eat out, going away on a missions trip, to keep the toilet seat up or down...) you don't need to confer with another person to seek their approval

4) You have more money to spend on yourself and to buy flowers for yourself with

3) You won't get kicked between the legs if you forget a certain person's birthday or anniversary

2) You can eat a "two-can-dine" meal at McDonald's by yourself and pig out at a buffet and chew with your mouth opened

and the number one reason why being single is super....

1) You don't needa wear deodorant

...and we're finished.

more tomorrow than today | 1:59 PM |

Man alive, the past Christmas break gots to be the most productive one I've had thus far. Everyday was pretty much booked up spending time with friends and family. Though much of it wasn't heart to heart, or deep times of emotional and spiritual sharing...I felt that time spent with people is time well spent. Time IS still the best gift one could give another.
Highlights:

-Winter Conference
-Interview/Job offer
-Emily and Esther's B-day
-Japanese Buffet
-Demetres
-X-men legends
-Cooking breakfast
-UTSC
-Vaughn Mills
-and many more!

So that was my 3 weeks of break compressed in a nutshell. Now onto B-town:

I'm working in Burlington at the Canada Centre of Inland Waters (Wastewater Technology Centre building) and I do research with anaerobic digestors involving potatoe waste. What we basically do is try to figure out the optimal conditions and environmental niche for bacterias to produce the most amount of hydrogen, which in turn can be used for energy or misc activities.
Summary of my week:

Day 1
-watch WHMIS and safety video
-read articles
-pretend to look busy at my desk

Day 2
-tour of the facility
-cleaned out reactors
-looked busy reading articles at my desk

Day 3
-got parking pass
-sorted plastic tubings
-tried to fixed GC machine
-looked busy reading articles at my desk

Day 4
-got some forms that I haven't a clue how to fill out
-GC machine finally fixed
-sat around
-looked busy reading articles at my desk

Day 5
-watched some guy fix the pumps in the reactor
-went to Joe Dog's for lunch
-broke a pH electrode (which costs over 100 bux)
-spent the rest of the afternoon looking in the catalogue to buy another one
-looked busying reading articles at my desk

In between my busy schedule, I chatted it up with random people that walk by my room.

So there you have it, the life of a Science co-op student researching poo. Yummy.
